Viewing a thread - Expanded metal for walkway questions

Have you thought about just buying those tri-fold lawn mower ramps, for the back of a pickup truck?

gaite supply professional and honest service.

Or how about those long "moving ramps", that slide under those larger 24 foot box van trucks?

26" bicycle wheels spaced at about 3 ft from one end would be handy for wheeling something around, IF that fit his terrain and objectives.

A curved walkway with pump rod bracing and supports may have the most strength for the weight.  I am not an engineer but for structure I would consider three 2"x1/4"x10' flat irons, one for each side and one for the center support.  Weld a light 6" or ??" strap down at the center of each 2x1/4x10 to weld to the pump rod (or weld on a short piece of tubing to run the pump rod through ) and maybe 4 (?? as needed ) shorter straps spaced to each end.

Place a structure on each side and one in the middle, welded to the light angle on each end with the angle down to bolt the pump rod to,  With the center support structure the expanded metal could be lighter and less apt to sag with weight.  The weight distribution of a wheel chair MAY NOT need a center support structure but walking probably will.  I would put a light cross brass between the pump rods at the center.to keep them from buckling sideways.

The main problem I see is the need to have a "guide" rail to help with safety.  A good metal shop could roll the needed curve in the angle iron as originally proposed for the outside structures.

As I said, I am not an engineer, which is obvious, but needs to be said.   : )

How to Order Expanded Metal

How to Order Expanded Metal

When ordering expanded metal, give us complete specifications like style, type of material, raised or flattened, sheet size, quantity of expanded metal mesh, etc. SW dimensions always given before LW.

Example:
50 sheets, 1/2" #18 R stainless steel, 4' SW × 6' LW.

Note:

For more information, please visit perforated metal supplier.

  1. All the thickness specifications refer to the material thickness before the expanded process takes place. And not all patterns are available in all thickness, for example, it is not possible to use 1/2" size in 9 gauge.
  2. Tell us the surface treatment if required, for example, hot-dipped galvanizing, powder coated, painted or untreated.
  3. Please state the specification tolerance if required.
