Pilates instructor warns Kmart shoppers against reformer machine

Kmart fans have flocked to the store for the Black Friday sales, with some snapping up a brand new reformer pilates machine for a fraction of the usual cost.

Whereas a standard reformer pilates machine may set you back a good $, Kmart was retailing them for $249, with one TikTok creator showing off her new purchase on the video app, and others sharing their woes of missing out.

"This is going to be my personality trait for the next three-six months," the original TikTok creator said. "But $250! Wow."

Previously Aussies have flocked to Aldi stores to pick up the $299 reformer pilates machine during their Special Buys, so the Kmart one is saving shoppers $50 — if you were lucky enough to get your hands on one. "I signed up for early access, had it in my cart and paid for within one minute of the sale opening and they refunded me a day later saying there was no stock," one person lamented on TikTok.

While some TikTok fans have promised to review the pilates machine soon, other people in Facebook groups said they'd recommend it for the price.

"I’d recommend it for the price," one person said. "Resistance is easy to change around and quite good."

"This looks exactly like one I got a few months back, it’s a good basic machine," another person reviewed. "Honestly, for the price it’s great. Took me about an hour to set up, it is heavy but easy to move once set up too."

However on TikTok, qualified pilates instructor Ashley warned fans against buying the machine.

"Please do not buy it," she said. "Please, please, from a qualified pilates instructor, do not buy it. The reason I do not want you to buy it, is because it's not a proper reformer."

"It is done with tubing resistance bands, those tubes are tiny pieces of plastic, if they snap, you are at risk of hurting yourself very badly, especially if you are not trained and don't know what you're doing," she continued.

Ashley said people who are keen to try reformer pilates at home, should try renting one first. "I know in your head, you think you're going to use it," she said. "You will not use it. And they take up so much space. Please, I am begging you, do not buy the Kmart reformer."
