Hiperco 50A alloy is characterized as a soft magnetic alloy containing 49% cobalt, 2% vanadium, and iron as the balance. This alloy exhibits the highest levels of magnetic saturation and is primarily utilized as magnetic core material for electrical equipment necessitating high permeability values at significantly high magnetic flux densities. Hiperco 50A Production Heat Treatment

When selecting a heat treating temperature for your application, two critical factors should be kept in mind:

- For optimal magnetic soft characteristics, choose the highest suggested temperature.

- If the application necessitates specific mechanical properties that exceed those provided by the highest temperature, select the temperature that meets your mechanical property requirements.

As temperature decreases, the magnetic properties become less magnetically soft. The ideal heat treating temperature for the best soft magnetic properties is 885 ± 15°C (F ± 259F). Do not exceed 900°C (F). The heat treating atmosphere must be non-oxidizing and non-carburizing. Recommended atmospheres include dry hydrogen or high vacuum. Time at temperature should be between two to four hours. Cool at a rate of approximately 100 to 200°C (180 to 360°F) per hour to at least 370°C (700°F), then allow to cool naturally to room temperature.
